For those unruly motorists who have that habit of driving their cars after drinking liquor, better be informed – the authorities are having plans to increase the punishment for DUI driving. Maybe, this proposal was made by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration because of the increasing number of drunken motorists who have been involved in vehicle accidents that resulted to serious injuries and deaths.
DUI drivers must be banned in using our roads because they contribute added risks to many law-abiding motorists especially in California, where the highest number of fatalities were recorded due to these irresponsible acts. Who among us would want to see ourselves injured because an alcohol addict’s negligence?
There are many other ways to keep them off our roads, but I would suggest:
• Strict implementation of the prevailing law regarding the acceptable Blood Alcohol Concentration level of 0.08% and minimum legal age for drinkers (Better if our legislators will reduce the legal BAC level to at least 0.05%)
• Compelling all drivers who have caused an accident to undergo blood alcohol analysis
• Suspending the licenses of those who will be caught driving under the influence
• Increasing the excise taxes imposed by the government for alcoholic beverages
• Placing more checkpoints along our highways and streets, especially where those fatal accidents mostly occur
• Organizing community-based programs and information drives regarding the terrible effects of DUI driving
I do know that many hardheaded individuals would still choose to defy the laws but I think if they will be properly oriented about safe driving, we might notice a decrease on DUI accident cases.
Now, if you have been a victim of these drivers, it is your right to file your charges against them. Ask the assistance of a competent vehicular accident lawyer to teach them their lessons in court.
